Rebecca Annitto was about to turn fifteen when a tragic accident took her life on September 14, 2005. Rebecca was tiny in stature but powerful in heart, spirit and passion for life. Her wide eyes looked broad and deep. She saw all the wonder and sorrow in the world. She loved being coxswain for Mercer Junior Rowing light weight girls varsity; she adored fashion and beauty; she was a budding actress who appears as an extra in the feature film Little Miss Sunshine, she loved friends and family, and she felt a special kinship towards others who were less fortunate.
Over the past spring and summer Rebecca was working to develop her vision to connect students with meaningful service opportunities and help local organizations identify and harness the talent and vitality of our youth population. She recognized that middle and upper school students have school-based community service requirements as well as their own desires to contribute. She saw how difficult it was for kids to find suitable, interesting and accessible service sites opportunities. She thought it would be great if students could identify opportunities that matched their interests, abilities and schedule on their own, without a parent to negotiate the deal and transport them.
Rebecca envisioned this web site where students could register their interests and skills and fine matching organizations or events suitable for their criteria. She envisioned applications filled out by students and organizations and a compatibility match made on an internet site devoted to thiscause. She wanted to access local organizations as well as service opportunities in homes, schools and disad=ster sites. She wanted to create links between need and talent in an efficient, accessible way.
We are making her vision into a reality with this website, trying to keep her memory alive through a vibrant, youth created and managed vehicle. A vehicle that allows each young person to use their life force to touch others and create meaningful connections.
